She Cries (a poem)

Daily prompt:Storm

Crash!
Thunder strikes and lightning flashes,
disappearing in a streak of light.
The unrelenting rain: it pounds,
angrily,
on the rooftop.

I have been up for hours,
disturbed by the complaints of the sky. As she sobs,
I pad barefoot
to the window.

Behind heavy curtains,
heavy winds wail.
The sky weeps salty tears
that race down the glass.
She is enveloped with a misery that
no one else
can understand.

Cry!
I try to comfort the poor sky;
how sad she is!
She continues to howl
as I drift into sleep.

Until
the first glimmer of dawn
peeks through my window.
